About ajira darch photography

Hi! Ajira here!! Thanks for stopping by!

Here is where I share thoughts and images from my daily life, adventures as a parent to my beautiful son and of course, from photographing the lovely families that are my wonderful clients!

Bibi (my grandmother) must have known somehow. That giving me a name meaning journey would be apt. Corny as it may be, I do believe that life is a journey and we are better off (and much nicer to be around) enjoying the ride! See you on the road!

I love it when I see something so beautiful I have to stop and blink at it in a daze.

Let me show you what I see when I look at you.

One Picture, Three Ways

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Sometimes I know what a photo is going to look like before I take it. Often it’s more like I get this feeling of connection and just have to go with what my eyes are seeing before my brain has a chance to even compute it into thoughts. It’s a very zen sensation. A feeling of oneness and rightness.

Sometimes I do hardly anything to a photo before I share it, just a little add contrast or vibrancy… Other times I do more with the exposure, saturation or tint.

Once in a while, I can’t make up my mind which edit I like best.

Now you see why I call him HRG, right? As in His Royal Gorgeousness.

I’ve started an album on my Facebook page to share more of these. I’d be thrilled to see some of your images where you couldn’t make your mind up about an edit!! Come join us!

Sitting on a wall at San Jose airport

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

We waved at my dad until we couldn’t see him anymore beyond the security gates at San Jose International airport. Then with a heavy sigh from me, we set off on a little walk from Terminal A back to Terminal B where we’d parked our car. I was grateful for the time we’d had together and I was also already missing him again.

As we walked, ChĂ©saweh kept saying ‘hi’ to everyone we passed, climbing onto walls and benches and exploring everything surrounding us. I was soon caught up in photographing him as he did it. Then we’d hold hands again and walk a little further, discussing what we saw. We stopped to check out a truck and watched some people load it. We said hello to the driver of an armoured truck (who then hooted the strange horn for us) and the driver of a bus. We looked at a bench with holes in it, and at a centipede crawling by. We sat on a short wall and watched cars drive by and looked at clouds. Then we got in the car, sang to old Motown classics and he fell asleep.

I’m grateful for how much in the moment he is. And how easy it is to join him there.

Three Friends at a picnic

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

You’ll remember two of these lovely ladies from yesterday but all three have worked together and are great friends. I love their obvious connection and that they incite such laughter from each other.

Katie, Sarah, Elisabeth- you’re all three such beautiful, powerful women. I’m so grateful that our paths have crossed!

Friendship

I like people’s faces. I like their expressions and the way they laugh, wide open.

These women are doing amazing work in the world. And it shows.
